VOYLOK started as a kickstarter in April 2021 - and rapidly grew into a full blown business off the success of this small community.
The founding team were inspired by traditional Russian valenki - a felt boot that has been worn in the Russian and other northern slavic countries for centuries, but never modernised or exported.
Voyloks are still made in northern Russia - our Kostroma Classic comes from a small workshop on the banks of the Kostroma River. Each pair takes up to a week to make, sculpted by hand by expert craftswomen. Because of the nature of the felting, there are no off cuts (the wool can just be reused), nor are there any stitches or dyes involved. Wool, hot water and some expert hands - that's all that goes into your Voyloks.
